Dawn's Diary November, 2004

Dear Diary

Well well, so much to tell but so hard to remember it all.  October came and went along with Halloween.  David dressed up as a psychotic clown and Victoria as a witch. I don't have a picture of her, however. She went home with a friend after school and came home un-costumed.  But, I bet she was the cutest witch around.  David and Victoria had a great first report card. They both made the honor role.  There was an awards ceremony at school and it was very exciting. David also went through mediation training and is one of the student mediators to help solve problems between students.

The dogs are doing fine, and there are lots of new pictures of them in the Cavalier Kingdom photo album.  Or, you can check them out in this month's photos.

I found out that my job will be ending at the end of May 2004.  Oh, I also know what my interim job title is...I am officially a "synergy".  A synergy is a code word that stands for "person who is about to be laid off soon whose salary we can count towards our cost savings".  It  is interesting being a synergy...people talk about you, as a synergy, right in front of you like you weren't there....kind of like when your are in the hospital and the drs. talk about you to whoever else is in the room like you weren't capable of understanding what they say.  It is just as well, this new company is a very strange place, with very strange practices. The people are nice, but are the hapless victims of severe micromanagement.  Plus, if I had to travel to friggin Warsaw Indiana much more than I have already I think I would go insane.  I am sure it is nice if you have lived there all your life and don't know any better, but to those of us who have been fortunate enough to live in a sane state (ie, one that let's you drive more than 55 mph on a long divided highway in the middle of nowhere, has decent weather most all of the year instead of only 3 months out of the year, and where you can actually eat food you can taste).....it is a bit more than a Texan can stand.    I have some observations about life at the new company as well...but I will save those for a time when they are not still giving me a paycheck.  Anyway, they don't need me and I am sure they will continue to be very successful going forward and I will be just another name on a file folder that will be archived away.......Do I sound bitter? Well, I am not really. Well, I am sad that what I once had and loved is gone, but I am not sad to be leaving given the way life will be in the new organization.  Actually, I think I am pretty lucky as I get to leave while there are still the memories of what it used to be like fresh on my mind (for details, go to my "work memories" photo page and read my job eulogy.  For the others who stay (forever how much longer) the world will be a very different place.  Some will adapt and even like it, but for others it will be very difficult.  Anyway, enough about that.

My puppies are GREAT! I love them so.  Oh, and I painted another picture...this time of Esther's cat .  Isn't he a cutie.  Oh, another exciting thing...this February...I am going to accomplish one of my major life's goals....yes, it's true....me and Tom are going to the Westminster Dog show in New York on February 9 and 10. Tune in to the USA channel...you may see me there!
