Dear Diary
Well, Shine turned 6 months old late February. She is officially of "showing
age", and we have jumped in feet first. She attended another B match in February
right before she turned 6 months, and then this past weekend in March we
attended her first official show in San Antonio. It was a lot of fun. My
mentor, Steve...who I thank profusely for obtaining this wonderful puppy for me,
was there to help me...and I really needed help. He helped me get her
groomed up for her first appearance in the ring
then coached me on what to do, what to try not to do, and what to do if I do
something I am not supposed to do (like don't drop the leash if I fell down).
On Saturday we made our first appearance
.
She did really well, what a gem she is. Unfortunately I can't say the same for
myself. It seems I have this hideous leg (calf) injury that I had hoped would be
good enough to make do with. However, the first time I stepped out to run her
around the ring my muscle felt like it was tearing and I barely could make it. I
knew that Sunday was not an option. I asked Steve to help out, and
he mercifully agreed. Actually, it ended up that an associate of his showed
Shine for me instead of Steve (he was double booked with a Sheepdog in another
ring) and then he had another poodle to show when Shine had to go back in the
second time, but Sarah
did a great job and I am happy that Shine was able to make it into the ring. We
brought home a couple of ribbons. Mostly I was impressed that Shine behaved well
for the stranger who was handling her. I have asked Steve to show her
again this weekend as I am not hopeful about my leg improving by then.
Let's see, other than Shine news...I am getting my pond cleaned today. The stupid pump broke again and the river and waterfall came to a halt. They are putting a new and different pump in since the other brand seemed to wear out in about a year. I have a bunch of frogs, but sadly it seems all of my texas cichlids have perished.
However, in the face of death there is always new life...I have a bunch of
new baby fish in my aquarium...and these aren't run of the mill baby fish,
no...these are fancy schmancy Lake Tanganyika cichlids
and if I could catch the little suckers they would be worth some serious credits
at the fish store. But, they are too cute and I am letting them
stay....especially since I only recently had the joy of catching all my fish
when I had to move my aquarium and, as much fun as that was...am not anxious for
a repeat performance.
Kids are at the lake with Nana and Dave this week, spring break don't you know. I am kicking back and taking today off, and taking Friday off to get Shine all ready for her next showing...which now you can read about if you just.......
