Dawn's Diary

June 18, 2003

Dear Diary

The kids got back from camp a week or so ago.  They had lots of fun, they both want to go back next year.  You can see all the pictures from camp by looking at the pictures for this diary entry.  Vic's camp was by far the more luxurious, with the AC in the cabins, giant swimming pool etc. The Baptists can put on a real good camp.  David's was more primitive, basically the cabins were screened in sheds.  It really stormed one night and David got all wet in his bed. Vic didn't even know it rained.  Camp must have worked, however, as each child came back actually wanting to go to church!

So far the summer has been pretty good.  The most exciting thing lately that has happened is that I spotted a Leopard Frog in my pond.  Here is an actual picture of one of the frogs I found in my pond!  He is sitting on a rock by the river .  The next night, I found two of them...I guess he recruited a friend. They looked rather well acquainted.....This is really interesting. I have lots of toads who live around the pond (counted 7 last night) who put on a nightly singing/mating ritual, but hadn't really thought a frog would move in, as they really need to be near water all the time and I didn't think one could make the journey from wherever the nearest water source may be. Toads can live fine on the land as long as there is some moisture (like mud) they can burrow into. So, toads will travel from near and far.  The frog was cute, and pretty big. I hope he finds some friends.

The dogs are doing great. I am experimenting with making my own homemade dog food for them.  I have been reading of the terrible things they put into store bought dog food....basically all the animal parts not fit for human consumption, including but not limited to cancerous tissue, ground up feathers, tumours, etc.  I thought to myself "self, you feel guilty when you don't give your rats carrots and other fresh veggies...why should your dogs not get variety?". So, I am making their gruel.  They really like one recipe (ground beef, brown rice, veggies) but not so much the other (ground turkey, oatmeal, veggies).  Well, we are still experimenting anyway.

I took the LSAT last week. I am still evaluating what to do with my life after my job goes away.  So far, it is between law school and opening my own pet services business.  I should have some more months to consider.

Well, that is all for now. Be sure to check out the camp pictures!
