Dawn's Diary February 2006

Dawn's Diary  - Page One

Dear Diary

Well, another trip to Westminster has come and gone. What an exciting adventure this one was.  First of all, we barely made it up there because they were canceling flights right and left in anticipation of a big blizzard.  I was skeptical...I mean, doesn't it snow all the time up there? What is the big deal? Well, our original flight was canceled but we made it on to what turned out to be the last flight from Dallas into LaGuardia before the remaining flights were all canceled and the airport was eventually closed until Monday.  Yikes!  And yes, they were right...it turned out to be a record breaking snow for NYC.  It was beginning to snow when we arrived. We set right out to go to the obligatory and customary first stop after the hotel...Burger King for the first of many meals of junk food eaten on this trip.  I had a double cheese whopper  YUM.  We then traipsed around Times Square just a tad...I like this picture as it shows the snow coming down.  The snow was pelting us in the face, so we headed back to the hotel pretty quickly that night.  We then checked out the basement of the hotel where the dogs go to potty and exercise .  Even with the bad weather, the dogs were starting to trickle in.  On Sunday it was basically white out conditions in the morning. We slept in and got going a little before noon.  The streets were all but deserted and the snow had really piled up .  Cars that dared to try to get out were getting stuck all around us.  We decided to hoof on down to Central Park where we were treated to a wintry wonderland .  We had originally planned to take a tour bus this day, but of course none were running. So, we actually traipsed around in this weather for several hours before heading back to the hotel. That night we saw the Broadway production of Lion King...yes, even in the blizzard the show must go on.
