In Memory

Madame Laura 1993-2007

Laura came to live in our home in 1994, just a week or so after Victoria Rose came home from the preemie ward.  Laura was at least a year old and had unsuccessfully been housed with two other families before her final adoption with us.  We obtained her from the Humane Society in Austin.  I didn't know what I was looking for the day I found her there, but when I saw her I knew I had to bring her home. She seemed so sad.  We were going to attempt to rename her, for what kind of name is "Laura" for a dog.....but it was the name she had been given at the shelter and I just couldn't change it.

She and David became fast friends  .  At that time, David constantly wanted to play outside but would not go out in our big back yard by himself. Once Laura came along, however, he happily went outside with the puppy.  They didn't really play together...he just needed her company.  In the first year or so, we lost many toys to the puppy.  We had an understanding with David, however, that if he left a toy out that later got chewed up there would be no crying. It was our fault for leaving it.  He would routinely come up to me holding the remnants of some toy...usually a hot-wheel and say to me in a rather matter-of-fact way...."puppy chew it".

Over the years Laura was a loyal yet undemanding member of our home .  She aged with grace and dignity, and it wasn't until her adult years that her psychic wonder dog abilities surfaced.  She held an annual New Years Prediction reading and for a while even maintained a psychic advice column.  Laura saw the coming and going of many pets through our home over the years.  If there is one thing that can be said of Laura, it is that "Laura was a good old Dog".  I hope she is having fun at the Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again, Rest in Peace.
