July 2007 - Mexico!
Dear Diary
This summer we took a most fabulous vacation to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. We stayed in the Playacar area....about 40 miles from Cancun in the Cozumel area. Way back in November of last year, we booked this all inclusive 7-night beach blast vacation. Now, Tom and I have been to this area at least a couple of times, but this time we took the kids and it was totally Jawsome (Jammin' + Awesome = Jawsome).
Our hotel, the Iberostar Quetzal, was quite luxurious by Mexican hotel
standards, and of course situated on the beautiful turquoise waters. Along
the walking path from our room to the beach, there was lush jungle foliage with
monkeys
,
peacocks and other interesting wildlife. The hotel resort was sort of like
being on a cruise, but on land. There was always food and drinks available in
the all inclusive package...even room service was included! The beach was quite
lovely, the water was very clear and the beach itself was very fine, clean white
sand
.
We split our time up well to enjoy both the relaxation under the umbrellas on
the beach as well as day trips to fun places. The first day trip we took
was to Xel-Ha, a water park consisting of a natural river you could snorkel down
into the bay
.
David and I went Snuba diving there...kind of a mix between snorkeling and
scuba. There were all these giant Iguanas everywhere as well
.
Another day, we went to Chichen Itza....I think it is being added to the
seven wonders of the modern world. Anyway, it is the ruins of a Mayan
civilization complete with pyramids
.
Another day we went to Cozumel and rented a car and drove along the island. We
were also able to go to our hotel's affiliated hotel on Cozumel and spend some
time on their beach at their hotel. Our turned out to be much nicer in
comparison, but it was a great place to take a break and swim during our day
.
Of course, we had to visit Senor Frogs as this was the only thing that David
specifically requested we do on this entire trip
.
Victoria even got her hair braided...which she later regretted as those
little beads kind of dug into her head...but she looked cute....
.
Tom and David went parasailing on the ocean in front of our hotel, it looked
like great fun!
.
Another thing we enjoyed was family arts and crafts
.
The kids and I painted ceramic things...our art work was quite pathetic, really.
However, a miraculous thing occurred when we picked the pieces up at the end of
the day...they were magically transformed into good looking art. I am still not
sure how that happened, but they sure looked better than when we turned them in

In all, it was a wonderful trip. There is too much to really write about...besides, I am sure all you want to do is see the pictures anyway and there are plenty for you to look at after this posting is done.
Something else wonderful happened while we were away...Shine went to Oklahoma
with her handler, Steve, and got her first several points
!
We now have ribbons that mean something...and "trophies" too!
We picked up another point in San Antonio this past weekend. We still have
a long way to go, however. But.....it was wonderful!
On a sad note, however, Laura passed away while we were in Mexico. You may read her Memorial here.
OK, here is what you have been waiting for....the PICS OF OUR VACATION!
